Great Vegan Challenge – Go Vegan for a month

There’s power in them thar plants and the Great Vegan Challenge is a fantastic way to dip your toe. Animal Aid are running their single month Vegan Challenge again. Anyone can manage a month. Surely? Even certain non-Tory MPs are getting in on the act…

It’s easy of course, but can be daunting to those on the cusp. So dipping your toe for the month of November is a great first step. Especially as Animal Aid are providing all kinds of support. Of course, a lot of you will be vegan already. BUT if you’re like me you’ll have vegan-curious friends. So why not get them to take the plunge for a month. It’s really easy to sign up on the Go Vegan website.

Go Vegan on the Great Vegan Challenge

What exactly is the Great Vegan Challenge, then?

Well it’s exactly what it says on the tin. Pledge to go vegan for a month and get loads of support from Animal Aid on the Go Vegan website. There’s even an Agony Aunt to ask any queries and help you over come them. So Animal Aid say:

This November, Animal Aid is running the Great Vegan Challenge and the idea behind it is simple: you pledge to go vegan for the month and they aim to make it as easy, fun and engaging as possible. Plus it’s free to sign up and open to anyone, anywhere in the world!

When you register to take part, you’ll get:

  • Advice on nutrition and vegan products
  • Recipes and motivational tips sent regularly
  • Access to an internet forum for swapping tips and stories
  • A telephone hotline for any burning questions
  • Information on exclusive events, offers and product give-aways

There’s even a Great Vegan Challenge hotline if you’re struggling! All the support you could possibly need is right there. Brilliant.

So how did last year’s event go?

Almost 800 people took part last year from 17 different countries and the response from them was overwhelmingly positive.

‘So glad I gave the Great Vegan Challenge a go! It’s been fantastic and made a big change in my lifestyle for the better! Everyone should try it!’ – Katrina Powis

‘Fantastic! I didn’t realise it would be as easy as it was to transition from veggie to vegan. I will certainly be staying vegan… no going back now!’ – Shaune Mather

‘The Vegan Challenge gave me invaluable knowledge, as well as the support and ease to continue on this path in future.’ – Nadya Booyse

You can read more about people’s experiences last year on the Great Vegan Challenge blog, which will be updated daily throughout November.

This year, Animal Aid has also linked up with organisations in Australia, Canada, Luxembourg, Estonia and elsewhere to help spread the word and support Vegan Challengers in those countries, making it a truly global event.

Great Vegan Challenge

So no worries if your not from the UK. Just take part and rise to the Great Vegan Challenge wherever you are!

Already vegan?

If you’re already vegan, why not convince one of your friends or family to give it a try? You never know, they might just come round to the vegan way.

Whether you’re motivated by saving animals, improving your health or protecting the planet, you can find out more about the Great Vegan Challenge or sign-up to take part at and if you have any questions, you can contact Ben Martin via or by calling 01732 364546 ext 227.

One month. Vegan. It’s barely a challenge at all, actually, I can do it easy :) – but it’s a Great Vegan Challenge for the curious. The resources on offer are pretty impressive. Taking the Great Vegan Challenge means you have a hotline to call if you’re struggling as well as the usual online resources. A vegan help hotline! That’s pretty fantastic.

This kind of initiative is great. Similar to Meat free Monday, another Animal Aid campaign, it’s a great way to get the message out, show people how easy it is to be vegan AND to make a real impact. I really do like the Great Vegan Challenge. Anyone who is on the borderline, give it a go for a month. Go on…
